Denzel Washington in Talks to Join Cast of ‘Gladiator 2’

Deadline has reported that Denzel Washington is in the same situation as Barry Keoghan, who was previously thought to be in final negotiations to join the cast of Gladiator 2. The actor and Ridley Scott will collaborate on a movie for the first time in 16 years if the arrangement is approved. They had previously worked on American Gangster together.

The part that Denzel Washington will play in Gladiator 2 is unknown. The story claims that studio officials desired another A-lister for this important role. Between Scott's return to the director's chair, the solid script written by David Scarpa (The Man in High Castle), and the director's pitch of the character, the Equalizer actor was sold.

Emperor Geta, a villain, will be portrayed by Keoghan. The primary role of Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielson) from the first movie, will be played by Paul Mescal. After the events of the initial 2000 movie, it will take time.

Although the cast for the eagerly awaited sequel will be fresh, Scott is enlisting the support of several original movie veterans. Both production designer Arthur Max and costume designer Janty Yates will be back.

The original movie received 12 Oscar nominations and took home five of them, including Best Picture and Russell Crowe's Best Actor award. The actor used the movie as a springboard to gain additional significant, career-defining parts later on.

The addition of Denzel Washington to Gladiator 2 extends his illustrious, two-Oscar-winning career. For the movies Glory and Training Day, he received Oscars. Also, he has received nominations for his performances in the films Fences, Roman J. Israel, Esq., The Hurricane, Malcolm X, Cry Freedom, and The Tragedy of Macbeth.

He is currently scheduled to return to The Equalizer 3 as Robert McCall.
